The Alchemy Retreat

I’m very excited to announce our first Alchemy Retreat is now set for April 13-15th 2018, at the beautiful Tilton House nestled within the South Downs National Park in Bloomsbury country.  I’m looking forward to revitalising 12 special guests over the course of this weekend through the power of plants and sharing some of my knowledge on how food can be your medicine.  I’ll also be introducing you to some of my friends I’ve met along the way to help nourish the body and s.....

A little note on fat gain round the middle by Karen Newby

Menopause: How to get rid of weight gain round the middle

Often gradual weight gain round the middle can be a sign of internal stress in your body.  It’s also  interesting to note that the word stress was only used as an engineering term up until the late 1930s – no such thing as ‘stress’ beforehand! So what is increasing t.....

Menopause: The Optimum Menopause Diet

This is referred to by the Japanese as having an awareness of ‘fu shi me’, ie a defined mental outlook. In Asia, the menopause is regarded positively, rather than in the West were it’s often approached with dread. It has been reported that the incidence of hot flushes, the most common of the symptoms of the menopause, varies from 70–.....

Brain food

In Ayurveda the mind is very much treated as part of the body; with the knowledge that it has a huge effect on the body and vice versa.  In Western medicine it’s often seen as something separate to the physical. We can see this through diet – if the brain isn’t nourished, like all organs in the body, it starts to become out of balance. You only have to look at stress and what effect this has on brain function and how this manifests in the body to see how important .....

You’re 99% microbe…it’s time you started eating like it –Jeff Leach

The gut remains an essential part of our wellbeing, with a huge amount of on-going research attempting to further understand this complex microbiome. The gut is home to two-thirds of our immune system; it’s the biggest line of defence against the outside world (aside from the skin), essential for transport of nutrients, protection against pathogens and our immune response. It’s also known as the ‘second brain’ – our ‘gut feeling’. It’s home to the largest amount of nerve endin.....
